Advocates for ERA ratification make push on opening day of General Assembly session

  • Resolutions for the Virginia General Assembly to ratify the ERA did not get out of GOP-controlled committees last year, even with ERA supporters packing committee rooms and pressuring lawmakers to take action. Since then, ERA supporters have done a flurry of lobbying across the state, including a bus tour, and enlisted support from more Republicans in anticipation of a major push this year.

  • The Senate Privileges and Elections committee just voted to pass the Equal Rights Amendment with 8 votes in support, and 6 votes against. The bill is being championed by Sen. Sturtevant (R) and Sen. Dance (D).

Speaker Cox Announces Changes to Standing Committees of the Virginia House of Delegates

  • Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Kirk Cox (R-Colonial Heights) on Wednesday announced changes to the standing committees of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 2019 General Assembly Session. Pursuant to House Rule 15, all committee members are appointed by the Speaker, who also designates the chairman and vice chairman of each committee.

Report: Richmond DPU employee logged 1,900 hours of overtime in 2017

  • Working 40 hours per week for an entire year equals 2,080 hours. That figure, combined with the 1,889 hours of overtime for which the city paid the DPU employee, means the employee averaged a 76-hour work week during the calendar year the audit reviewed, said Lily Hernandez, deputy city auditor.
